Sempre il 6 Maggio 1968 al First International European Pop Festival presso il Palazzo dello Sport di Roma, i Pink Floyd suonarono  di fronte ad un pubblico di solo 400 persone : Set The Controls For The Heart of The Sun, Astronomy Domine, Interstellar Overdrive,

Il primo International European Pop Festival fu annunciato per ben due volte : il 19-25/2/1968 e il 4-10/5/1968, ma in entrambe le occasioni il festival fu disdetto per l'assenza di alcuni gruppi pubblicizzati prima che confermassero la loro partecipazione. "Rome goes Pop", un documentario del festival, con spezzoni del concerto dei Pink Floyd, fu trasmesso a colori nel Regno Unito per la serie tv Release alle 21.55 del 18 maggio 1968 su BBC2.

Al programma parteciparono Julie Driscoll, Donovan e gruppi cecoslovacchi, italiani  e giapponesi. L'esibizione fu registrata da una radio olandese, VPRO Rebroadcast.

Sembra che i Pink Floyd girarono il promo “It would be so nice” al Piper; l’ipotesi è che la BBC abbia filmato il promo video dei Floyd al Piper Club nei giorni del Festival Pop.

Roma Pop 1968: La Bambola (reprise)

Mia madre -incinta della prima ilari - non andò al Pop Festival.  Rimase a casa in preda a nausea e vomito. Che combatteva con alici e pesche acerbe. In compenso mi rivela che nel 1965 andò al concerto dei Beatles al Teatro Adriano. Twist senza Shout. Niente di che insomma. Tanti i segreti. Il 1968 fu l'anno di "La bambola". Mi racconta che non potevi entrare in un bar di Roma (con juke box), o andare a una festa o accendere la tv senza sorbirti patty pravo sessantavolte al giorno. Che non reggeva particolarmente. Tu mi fai girar, tu mi fai girar, come fossi una bambola. Mentre ricorda con piacere le canzoni di Don Backy che intonava mentre sciava con la panza o guidando la macchina verso la clinica dove sono nata. Tu mi fai girar! Altro che bambola. U' miracolo.

 Leggendo il post di Ernesto Assante Rome Pop Festival 1968, mi sono incuriosita. Insomma luogo e anno di nascita della sottoscritta. Mother, Father ! ma che musica vi ascoltavate nel maggio 1968 proprio mentre crescevo incapsulata nella pancia?

Popping Down to Rome

A first resounding tinkle is heard from what may become the greatest, or at least the loudest,show on earth. The first European International Pop Festival, a polyphonic Frankenstein is getting itself together,for a seven day happening in May, the 4th to 10th in that tremendous flying saucerdrome, the Pallazzo dello Sport in Rome.

Don Fredriksson is the chairman, a Californian veteran of such historic moments as the Beatles? first appearance in the Cow Palace, San Francisco. Fredriksson . . . beams. “The Samurai are coming” he says. “Groovy. of course,we still have over half British groups. They are wild for British groups.” And how about British group followers? Well somehow or other various freeze-busting round trips have been organised, the cheapest being an all-in with beds, tickets and coach travel for £33 10s.                    
“And we‘ve had two requests for block bookings of 3,000 already.”

Why loose your cool for Zoot Money and his Dantalion,s Chariot, Blossom Toes, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Donovan, The Family, The Move (top of Harold Wilson’s pops), The Soft Machine, The Incredible String Band, Traffic, Pink Floyd, Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band, The Byrds, John Handy, The Crome Syrcus with Astarte Ballet, Buffy St. Marie, Julie Driscoll, Fairport Convention, The Pebbles, The Dragonfly, The Robati from Jugoslavia, The Javeri Manipuri Dance group from India, and The Warsaw Skiffle Group from oddly enough Warsaw! And who said poetry is dead anyway ?

Nato a Milano il 13 maggio 1938 la sua carriera iniziò nei night club milanesi negli anni ’50, in coppia con l’amico d’infanzia Adriano Celentano, imitando rispettivamente Dean Martin e Jerry Lewis.
Nel 1961 ci fu il debutto, senza troppa fortuna, al Festival di Sanremo con “Pozzanghere” mentre, il suo primo successo, è datato ’62 con la canzone: “Quando, quando, quando” che farà il giro del modo.
Sono gli anni della grande fama, Mina deve a lui uno dei suoi più grandi successi: il brano “Grande, grande, grande”.

Negli anni ’70 il trasferimento negli USA e l’amicizia con Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Frank Sinatra.

Sulla cresta dell’onda da circa mezzo secolo nel ’99 arriva per Tony Renis il Golden Globe per “The prayer” dal cartoon “La spada magica”, interpretata da Céline Dion e Andrea Bocelli.
Infine nel 2002, Il Ministero per gli Affari Esteri lo nomina Ambasciatore della Canzone Italiana nel Mondo.

Minimalismo Musicale Ripetitivo (Discografia Minima)

Il compositore e critico musicale inglese Michael Nyman intorno al '68, introdusse il termine note minimali per contrassegnare una forma musicale che andava sviluppandosi negli Stati Uniti caratterizzata da una riduzione delle trame sonore. La composizione avviene per mutamenti sensibili, modulazioni elementari, oscillazioni graduali nella modalità della ripetizione e della perdita progressiva fino a raggiungere un'indiffernza con l'ambiente. Una musica spesso in analogia alla pratica della meditazione. Fu sempre Nyman a definirla come "musica minimale" nel suo celebre libro Experimental Music, Cage And Beyond, del 1974. Di seguito una discografia minima:
