Era il 1980 e la musica rock si stava trasformando. I Talking Heads, da New York, con l’aiuto di Brian Eno, si misero in viaggio tra metropoli e deserto, sull’onda di un nomadismo elettronico mischiato a ritmi africani. Nacque così “Remain in light”, uno dei dischi più belli, ricchi e complessi della nuova musica, di evoluzione e di rinascita del rock che ha segnato in maniera indelebile gli anni Ottanta. Asa Yoelson (Seredžius, Lituania, 26 maggio 1886 - San Francisco, USA, 23 ottobre 1950), noto come Al Jolson, è stato il primo cantante a vendere oltre 10 milioni di copie e protagonista del film che ha segnato l'inizio dell'era del cinema sonoro: Il cantante di jazz di Alan Crosland (1927).Dall'omonima pièce teatrale (1925) di Samson Raphaelson il film narra la storia di un figlio di un cantore religioso ebreo che ha la passione del jazz e lascia la famiglia per far carriera nel mondo dello spettacolo truccato da nero.
